The Main Page

This is the website of Bill Silvert, his family and friends, as well as activities such as Ciência Silvert (scientific consultancy). Here you can read about Bill, his family, and the projects they are involved with. You can also access pages dealing with scientific topics such as ecological modelling, fuzzy set theory, fisheries management and much more.

The main address for this site is silvert.org. However it is also accessible as silvert.eu, in the new EU (European Union) domain.

This site is under development, and material is being installed all the time. It replaces the defunct site at www.milpah.com, which has moved to www.milpah.silvert.org. Unfortunately the company that hosted milpah.com has gone extinct, but they will not release the domain name.

Here are some additional specialised sites:

	Various articles, essays and memoirs can be found at www.readme.silvert.org. This site has much of Vicki Oppenheimer's writings, some of Bill's more eccentric musings, and contributions both other family members and friends.
	Material for the 2008 Halifax meeting of ICES is available here.
	Numerous files developed for the ECASA project are in a subsite which includes reports and some demonstration prototypes related to the development of Decision Support Systems (DSS) for aquaculture siting and management. Most of this work is now obsolete and some links may be broken.
	More recent work on Decision Support Systems is being developed for presentation at a conference on Ecological Modelling in Ottawa in July, 2010, and can be viewed here.
	Vicki Oppenheimer's book, The Taste Makers: How New World Foods came to Old World Kitchens, can be seen at www.milpah.silvert.org/tmfinal in its entirety! We have decided to make the complete book available.
	The Journal of Simple Systems is entertaining and actually has some scientific merit. Think of it as an answer to all the journals about complex systems.
	Modelling (ecological and fuzzy) is at www.ciencia.silvert.org/models
	Resource files for a module on Evaluating Ecological Models in the Water & Coastal Management MSc Programme at the Universidade do Algarve in March 2006 are located at www.silvert.org/mestrado
	You can see photos of our trip to South Africa at www.silvert.org/za, and eventually we will post photos from our 2005 trips to Bali and East Timor.
	On 28 July 2007 we qualified for the recreational boating certification as Patrão Local, and you can see our graduation here.
	The Cyber Society for Theoretical Biology had a site at www.ciencia.silvert.org/cstb, but the CSTB is unfortunately no longer active (the site is temporarily closed and will be reopened for archival purposes). If there is interest the site can be reactivated.

There are a few other sites here that either are not complete or are not of public interest, such as records of the weddings of family and friends, and photos from scientific meetings I have attended. Those of public interest will be listed here when I have time to add them.
